Professor Haizheng Zhong from Beijing Institute of Technology visited the laboratory for academic exchange

At 4p.m. on 4 January 2018, at the invitation of the Key Laboratory of special functional materials, Professor Zhong Haizheng of the School of Material Science Engineering at the Beijing Institute of Technology, who is a National natural science outstanding young fund winner, visited the lab and made an academic presentation entitled "research on quantum dot materials and devices for illumination and display ". This presentation was presided by Wang Shujie, a teacher of the Key Laboratory of special functional materials. The teachers and students of the laboratory and relevant research institutes of Henan university attended the meeting.

Professor Zhong started by discussing the current research status and research progress of quantum dot field, the research progress of their team in the synthesis of CuInS2 and CH3NH3PbX3 quantum dots (QDs) and their application in lighting and display fields was emphatically introduced. First of all, in view of the application needs of surface light source lighting, Professor Zhong focused on the development of low toxicity and low cost ternary CuInS2 series quantum dot materials, which was the first to achieve a small scale amplification of 100 grams in the world. Fluorescent conversion white LED devices with high color performance were prepared, and the efficient and fast ligand exchange technology was developed to realize high efficiency electroluminescent devices. Second, according to the need of display applications, Professor Zhong discovered the aggregation induced fluorescence characteristics of perovskite materials, and used this feature to set up the room temperature and precipitation, microemulsion preparation perovskite quantum dots. And a perovskite quantum dot material with adjustable color and high luminescence efficiency was obtained. The physical mechanism of size reduction and effective encapsulation to improve the quantum yield of quantum dots was elucidated. Subsequently, the "in situ preparation strategy" of perovskite quantum dots optical conversion film has been developed, and finally obtained a high performance optical conversion film. These research work has realized the wide color field quantum dot backlight display and high efficiency green light electroluminescent LED device, which provided a new technical route for the display application of perovskite materials.

After the presentation, participants and Professor Zhong discussed the related scientific issues in the research field. The event not only strengthened academic exchanges, but also facilitated a deeper understanding of the development of quantum dots in the field of lighting and display, and promoted the overall academic atmosphere of the laboratory.

About the Speaker

Zhong Haizheng: Professor in the School of Material Science Engineering at the Beijing Institute of Technology, winner of the National Excellent Youth Fund for natural science. He got his bachelor degree from Jilin University at 2003, then he completed his PhD studies at the Organic solid laboratory, Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences at 2008. During his PhD period, he conducted six months of academic exchanges at University of California, Los Angeles as a visiting student. Then Professor Zhong pursued his postdoctoral work at the University of Toronto from 2008-2010. He joined the School of Material Science Engineering at the Beijing Institute of Technology in 2010, and was promoted to professorship in 2013. Over the years, he has obtained the national natural science outstanding youth fund, the personnel department fund for returned personnel from overseas study, Beijing science and technology new star and the Beijing youth talent plan.

Research directions: Optical and optoelectronic materials. At present, Professor Zhong is mainly engaged in the research of quantum dot luminescence and its application technology. He has made outstanding contributions to the preparation of the new type of low-toxicity tri-copper indium sulfur and perovskite series quantum dot materials and its lighting and display applications. Up to now, He has published 85 SCI papers, which have been quoted by others for over 3000 times. Among them, Professor Zhong is either the first author or corresponding author for 52 papers, and 8 of the papers were the high citation papers of ESI, the highest citation of single papers being 330 times and the H factor being 29. Application for 15 Chinese patents (9 authorization, 2 technology transfer), 2 applications for international invention patents were submitted, and book chapters for 3 books have been published. More than 20 invitations from important domestic and overseas conferences, including "the 2015 conference in Europe," the annual conference of the Japanese display, and the "Display Materials Conference". His students were awarded, among others, the "Scholars of Xiangjiang", "Outstanding early-career researcher" of the ministry of education, and "First prize of college students challenge cup"
