The Fifth National Symposium on Abnormal Thermal Expansion and Related Materials was held in Kaifeng, Henan from October 30 to November 1, 2020. The meeting was organized by the Key Laboratory of Special Functional Materials of the Ministry of Education of Henan University/National and Local Joint High-efficiency Display and Lighting Technology Hosted by Engineering Research Center/School of Materials.

The theme of this conference is "Discuss the latest development of abnormal thermal expansion materials and promote academic exchanges among domestic counterparts", aiming to provide experts and scholars in related fields with an opportunity to exchange the latest research results. From Beijing University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, Zhengzhou University, Beihang University, Nanjing University of Technology, Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangdong Spallation Neutron Source, Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, South China University of Technology, Henan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Hainan University, China More than 80 experts, scholars, and graduate students from the University of Petroleum, Yangzhou University, Guilin University of Technology, Beijing High Voltage Science Center and other units attended the conference.

A total of 23 conference invitation reports were arranged at this conference. They conducted in-depth and extensive exchanges on the frontier and hot issues in the field of abnormal thermal expansion functional materials, discussed the latest developments in the research of negative thermal expansion functional materials in my country, and demonstrated the new research on abnormal thermal expansion functional materials in China The characteristics have aroused enthusiastic discussions and positive responses from the participants. At the report meeting, the atmosphere of academic discussion was enthusiastic. Delegates spoke enthusiastically and communicated actively. Delegates and graduate students generally felt that they had benefited a lot.

At the beginning of the conference, the opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Jia Yu, Executive Deputy Director of the International Joint Laboratory of Quantum Functional Materials of Henan Province, and Professor Du Zuliang, a scholar of the Central Plains and Dean of the School of Materials, gave a welcome speech. Participants agreed that this seminar has achieved the purpose of mutual learning, mutual understanding, and joint promotion of progress in this field, laying a good foundation for further scientific research cooperation, and it is a successful academic conference. The meeting decided that the "Sixth National Academic Seminar on Abnormal Thermal Expansion Functional Materials" will be held in Guilin.

The convening of this conference has expanded the influence of Henan University in the field of abnormal thermal expansion and related materials research, strengthened our school's foreign academic exchanges and cooperation, and played a positive role in our school's development in this field and talent training. At the same time, it is also a rare opportunity to promote Henan University and contribute to the double-class construction of Henan University.
